Saturday Ramblings

This Saturday the sun finally came out after a week of stormy weather. We got so much rain I thought we were going to have to get out the ark. I can only imagine what this would have looked like if it had been snow.

We had a later start than usual yesterday. I had my first time out with Co-Workers/friends sans kids. At least it has been so long with kids, I can't remember the last time Gabrian stayed home. My friend's daughter was beyond generous and offered to watch Gabrian free of charge. Because of our fun time on Friday, we went to bed super late and had to drag ourselves out of bed.

We finally got ourselves out the door and headed to dance class. I was supposed to dress Gabrian in his costume but I was a bad mommy and forgot. I found a shirt with mustaches on it and tried to pass it off as a perfectly acceptable costume. I think he bought it.

We were starving after dance class so on our way to start our errands for the day we sought out some breakfast. We stopped at Denny's to have a delicious and inexpensive breakfast.

After breakfast we stopped at the Dollar Store to pick up some canned pumpkin. While we there, Gabrian found some pretty fun googly eyes to try on.

Next up, was Sam's Club. They had gas for $2.92/gallon. You better believe I filled up on that price. I couldn't believe how much cheaper they were then anywhere else. We also got our fill of samples. We live for the samples there. We try our best to turn it into a lunch. Our favorite this time was the Swedish Fish samples.

I had a Christmas present fail at Marden's store. Do you have a store like Marden's near you? It is kind of a salvage store. They buy out lots of stores that are going out of business, had fire damage, or sometimes a flood. You never know what you are going to find there and it is always great prices. I found a zip up cardigan for Riley that was an Eddie Baeur with a beautiful Sherpa lining. It was a XXL but it looked like it ran small. I hated to walk away from it since it was only $14.99. It would have been a great Christmas present. At least Gabrian had a fun time checking out the Christmas decorations.

When we got back to the car, Gabrian found his goggles and modeled them for me.

On our way to Biddeford for our market shopping, we came across Bill Dodge Kia in Saco.

They were having a Halloween Festival for the kids and it was free to everyone. We started off with some time in their Bounce House.

They had Party Palooga there to paint the kids faces. They were also giving out free pumpkins.

We finished off our time there with some additional bouncing.

We had bounced up quite an appetite so we headed off for some lunch. I love the kids meal pail they are giving out this month. Besides the fact that they are offering it for $2.99. I am completely sold.

Last week we participated in stuffing a bus. This week at Shaws, we were able to stuff an ambulance. Gabrian had fun picking out tuna and alphabet pasta for the stuffing. It is so interesting to see Gabrian process and figure out why we are donating the food. It is such a foreign concept to him that their our people that don't have enough to eat. I think this is such a great experience for him to learn that we need to help out other people.

He also admired all the bikes of the volunteers. I think he would have liked climbing up on one of them and taking it for a little spin.

When we finished up our shopping we rushed home to get ready for a Halloween party. Gabrian makes a cute Magician/Batman.

On our way to the party we stopped off at Whole Foods Market to get a special treat for the girl who babysat Gabrian on Friday. I love shopping there. It is always so beautifully decorated.

We had a great time at the party. Gabrian was able to play with kids while I could hang out with grown ups. It was another great Saturday in October. I look forward to next week to see our first Saturday in November.

Denny's Restaurant Review - Portland, Maine

Gabrian and I left the house late on Saturday like usual and didn't have time to grab anything for breakfast. After his dance class we were starving. I was really in the mood for some eggs when we passed by Denny's on the way to the bank.

I always associate Denny's with late night eating when nothing else is open but don't think about them for breakfast. Which is pretty silly since they specialize in breakfast. Their parking lot was pretty full so it seemed like we had a good chance of a good meal.

The dining room was pretty full but we were able to get one of the last tables available. The staff was very welcoming and our server was great. Super friendly and attentive.

Gabrian liked the kids menu. It had a fun way to pick his breakfast.

Gabrian went with the Jr. Grand Slam breakfast. I think it is brilliant of a restaurant to let the kids fill out an order sheet. Both my boys love to fill out their orders this way.

We had a fun time filling out the story on the menu. We came up with a pretty funny story while we were waiting for our food. It didn't take long before our food was coming out.

Gabrian went with the Silver Dollar Pancakes (which were very generous in size), a scrambled egg, and 2 sausage links. All of this delicious food only cost $3.29. He ate every single bite on that plate. Nothing fancy but an awesome diner breakfast.

I went with the Biscuits and Gravy, Eggs, and Hash Browns. This only cost $4.00 and a definite bargain. I realize I am no southern girl but that gravy was delicious. My eggs were perfect along with the hash browns. I couldn't have asked for a better breakfast.

I love how Denny's has come out with a $2, $4, $6, and $8 menu. It gives you so many affordable options. Gabrian and I were able to eat breakfast for less than $8 and even with our tip we weren't much more than $10. Not bad for a sit down breakfast.

We will definitely be visiting Denny's again in the near future for another delicious breakfast.

If you would like to try them out for yourself, they are located at 1220 Brighton Ave., Portland, ME.

Saturday Ramblings

This is how we start pretty much every morning except for summer time when it is too hot to have the electric fire on. The only thing missing from this picture is the Poppy Cat. Saturdays are pretty busy for us but I like to give Gabrian a little time to relax in the morning before we head out.

We had to leave earlier than normal this Saturday because Riley had an appointment in Gorham the same time as Gabrian has his dance class. We dropped Riley off at Burger King to kill some time and I bought the boys breakfast burritos.

Gabrian's dance class is in an old mill and it has some really neat features. I was able to grab some great pictures of Gabrian on our way out.

We picked up Riley and were headed home to drop him off when we spied the Gorham's Farmers Market and decided to stop. We found a spot on the street and headed over.

This was our first time here and it was so cute. Not tons of vendors but really nice items being offered. The boys had a great time checking it out and Riley was even able to get a head start on his Christmas shopping (he is way better than me!).

As we were headed out, we noticed that there were musicians setting up. It really added to the ambiance of the Market.

The last bit of summer trying to hold on

Typical Riley Picture - I think the phone is fused to his hand

We started to head back home and didn't make it far before I had to pull over and take a picture of my dream home. I love everything about the way it looks from the outside. The only thing it is missing is a porch. I really need my dream home to have a porch.

When we got home we traded out Riley for a cake. We needed to drop it off at Gabrian's school for the Pumpkin festival. We were donating to the cake walk. It was a Coca Cola Cake with Coca Cola Fudge Frosting. I was tempted to keep it for us.

After dropping off the cake we still had some time to kill before the Festival started so we headed to our local Shaw's to start some of our grocery shopping for the week. They were stuffing the bus for a local food bank and Gabrian was excited to help stuff it.

Gabrian could barely contain his excitement for the festival. We headed over to join in on the fun. We purchased $5 worth of tickets which gave us 10 tickets. Most games were one ticket and rides were two.

After we ran out of tickets we headed over to the Pumpkin Patch. Several local farms had donated pumpkins and we were able to buy a large pumpkin for $3. Gabrian had an awesome time picking out his perfect pumpkin.

Gabrian and I tried to make a lunch out of our samples at Sam's Club but still didn't feel like were full. On our way to Market Basket, we decided to try out El Rayo Taqueria.

We had almost made it to Market Basket before I realized that Gabrian was way overdue for a haircut. It is one of his favorite things to do. He would get one every week if I would let him. This was a milestone cut for us. It was the first time that I did not stand at the chair the whole time with him. I told the stylist what we wanted and once he was all set, I sat down. He loved it! He talked her ear off the entire time. I can't believe how big he is getting.

Gabrian modeled his haircut and lollipop after the cut.

We finally made it to Market Basket. I am not sure what I am going to do when Gabrian doesn't fit in the front of the cart. I like being able to pay attention while I am shopping and Gabrian likes to play with my phone. I guess we will do one milestone at a time!

On our way back to the car we saw the best parking job ever. They must feel super proud!

Once we made it home, the pumpkin found it's new home before we called it a night.

It was a pretty nice Fall Saturday. I look forward to seeing what our next Saturday brings us.
